NSCAA COACH OF THE YEARSteve Lawrence was named the NSCAA Coach of the Year for high school boys private/parochial schools at the organization's annual convention earlier this month in Kansas City, Mo. "I wasn't expecting it, but it was a great honor," said Lawrence, a Brookfield native and former Hilltoppers standout who has a 120-19-9 record in six seasons at the helm of his alma mater. Finishing the 2011 Boys Soccer Season with a record of 24-0-1, Steve Lawerence and the Marquette Hilltoppers landed fourth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of Ameria poll. They have played and beaten teams from California, Washington D.C., Missouri, Indiana, Illinois, in addition to their competition in Wisconsin. Marquette soccer is regarded as one of the best programs in the country and as long as the WIAA allows, they will continue a challenging schedule in the years to come.

 For Immediate Release 2011 Boys Coaches of the Year Mark Newman led WIAA Division 2, Mount Horeb, to its first soccer state championship. Coach Newman is also named the Large Schools "Coach of the Year". Mount Horeb finished the season with a 20-2-2 remaining undefeated in their last 20 games played. The Mount Horeb boys shut-out their final two opponents to capture the state title, beating Sturgeon Bay 2-0 in the semifinals and Catholic Memorial 1-0 in the state final. Newman has an impressive 14 season record with the Vikings of 210-91-28.
The Milwaukee Marquette Hilltoppers won their second consecutive Division 1 state title this season. The Hilltoppers and their coach, Steve Lawrence, where ranked among the top-ranked teams in the country giving Lawrence Private/Parochial "Coach of the Year". Marquette has defeated teams hailing from California, Washington D.C., Missouri, Indiana, and Illinois. Marquette closed their fourth undefeated season in the programs history, in addition to remaining undefeated in their last 36 matches (35-0-1).
Scott Feltner receives Small Schools "Coach of the Year" for advancing Kohler to the sectional seminfinals and finishing the season with a 24-3-1 record. The only coach to ever led the Blue Bombers, Feltner has accumulated a 116-34-6 record during his six seasons. The Small Schools or Division 3 Schools, are comprised of a student body of 500 or less. This year Kohler's achievements where made with an enrollment of just 154 students.
These three coaches are to be honored at this year's Hall of Fame Banquet - Coaches' Convention in March, and are eligible for regional honors with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. |
